What’s in a Kiss: Tracking Hershey’s Chocolate

On average, each American spent $56.80 on chocolate products in 2015. That average consumption in weight of chocolate is 9.5 pounds, or after some calculations, roughly 760 Hershey’s Kisses. When unwrapping the foil of a Hershey’s Kiss, you never think about the journey that chocolate took to reach you. The chocolate in the kiss is manufactured in a factory in Pennsylvania, but the process started on a small farm across the Atlantic Ocean in West Africa, and involves a complicated planting and harvesting technique.
