Nia’s Consumption Story Map

Through the process of globalization our world has become more connected than ever before:  American fast food chains operate as far east as China, and products manufactured in the east dominate shelves in the west. As suggested by Chako and Price, as well as Flack, the increased integration of world markets  has created  countercultures of regionalism, nationalism and neo-localism throughout the world. But in our ever connected world, is anything truly local?

Sands beer — brewed by The Bahamian Brewery on Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas — prides itself on being a “truly Bahamian beer.” In this story map, I dive into the life-cycle of a bottle of Sands’s lager, from its origins to marketing to recycling and disposal to explore the international nature of a “national” product.
