The World of Dole Pineapples

Like many other agricultural based companies, Dole perpetuates the Global North and South Divide. By operating under four pillars of conserving water, reducing the carbon footprint, protecting soil and packaging products with recyclable materials, Dole aims to become a carbon neutral company in the near future. While they are on the way to reaching this goal in Costa Rica by 2021, the company has more ground to cover. By growing pineapples around the world, Dole has profited off of globalization. They have worked to improve communities where they grow their produce by sponsoring schools and providing health care to workers and families. Dole is not perfect, but it provides much better working conditions for laborers than the Triqui population in Holme’s Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies.
