Cole Wenzel

My Global Citizen Story map tells the story of the major events in my life that have come to shape who I am and the eventual path that took me to the University of Richmond. It follows my life from my birth In New Orleans to the present day. In this story map I discuss How Hurricane Katrina and my parents divorce effected my path through life. I am very confident that if these major events had not occurred in my life I would not have the values and knowledge that define who I am today.

Cole,

I think you did a really good job at allowing the story map to tell a narrative and help the viewer follow your life. You expressed a very complicated and ever changing environment in a way that was easy to follow. At the end, you also connected the University of Richmond to the way in which you grew up, which I thought was helpful.

I think that using a few more terms that were used in class may have provided slightly more detail that could have been helpful. I really enjoyed viewing your StoryMap.

When Hurricane Katrina hit, I was living in Alabama, and was only affected by the outer bands of the storm. I had family friends who were living in NOLA at the time, and saw pictures of their house totally submerged. The storm had such an impact on many aspects of people’s lives and the landscape of the area. Even months after the storm, I remember visiting the coast of Biloxi, Mississippi, and seeing only the traces of anything that had been there before the storm. One image that will never leave my mind was of a massive casino barge neatly protruding from the 6 or 7th story of the hotel it had formerly floated behind. Natural disaster’s impact on the landscape can be one of utter devastation.
