Are Multiculturalism, Diversity and Inclusion Singing the same tune?

Reflecting back on my organization and my time in Germany, I would have to say that multiculturalism, Diversity and Inclusion must be apart of an organizations culture. It was so much diversity amongst me in Germany that I learned to look further than my surroundings. I learned a little bit of intellectual information, but just plain ole life stuff as well. The life lessons I learned didn’t just come from the INEMA students, but my instructors and classmates that I shared somewhat of a living space with. By having different types of people of all ages it made me realize this is what we are around daily. If we sit back and observe people will pick up on minor things such as what makes a person tick, people appreciate when you do something for them, acknowledge certain things, or you accommodate their cultural differences.

As defined by Clara Chu; “”Multiculturalism” is the co-existence of diverse cultures, where culture includes racial, religious, or cultural groups and is manifested in customary behaviours, cultural assumptions and values, patterns of thinking, and communicative styles.” (Chu, 2005)

In the article below it sums up diversity and inclusion with these words; “In simple terms, diversity is the mix and inclusion is getting the mix to work well together.”

What is Diversity & Inclusion?

After looking further into these two topics, I believe my how for my proposal is starting to form. If I could create a multicultural event or club that is conducted monthly with a focus on all cultures, than maybe the workforce will feel more connected. How do I get to the WOW?
