Game Theory

I found it to be very interesting to learn about the specific types of dilemmas in this reading as most of them were concepts I had never learned before. It was interesting to think about all  these dilemmas because I could think of personal experiences in my daily life where the concepts and situations appear in my interactions with people. I was most intrigued by the concept of the Chicken’s dilemma. I remember I was doing a plank competition with a friend to have the record for the longest time and at one point we both agreed to try to quit and drop at the same time but there wasn’t enough trust and because of that lack of trust aggression showed and at that point someone had to back down and give into what the other person wanted.

I also found the Chicken’s dilemma to be one of the most interesting ones. You bring up a great point about that lack of trust aggression that prevents a compromise. I think that lack of trust is the main prohibiter of great progress within society, most things need a lot of different people to act to solve them but getting over that hump of trusting that others will do their part is the hardest.

If you’re talking about the plank competition at Dhall, I definitely know what you’re talking about. I can imagine it was hard to be the one to let go even after agreeing. It is hard to compromise when a title or reward is on the line.

The other issue with trying to trust others is that being burned by one person once makes it difficult to trust anyone again. It is much harder to build up trust than it is to tear it down. Trust can be lost in an instant but can take very long to build up.

“Chicken” seems like the theory that the most people have been drawn to, and I think it’s because it resembles competitions that we have with each other (as in your example). I had one friend in elementary through high school where we were always pitted against each other in competition because we were so similar and there was this constant back-and-forth that we had that reminds me of “chicken.”
