What advice did you get that was particularly helpful in your job search? What worked and what did not work?
I knew I wanted to end up back home in Maryland, particularly in Annapolis. The CDO office helped me make a list of target employers in the area by looking into the local bar associations and family law section of statewide bars. From there I was able to reach out to attorneys over the summer to ask for their advice and experience. After fostering these relationships, I sent them my resume and asked if they had any interest in a summer associate, which helped me get a good number of interviews and ultimately my job for my 2L summer.
How did you land your summer jobs?
I landed my 1L judicial internship a similar way I landed my 2L job, which was by reaching out to local attorneys and court clerks in my area asking if they would have any time to talk about their experience! The CDO introduced me to websites such as LeadershipConnect, which helped me find contact information for a lot of clerks that were hiring for their judges’ chambers.
What advice or information would you like to share with other students?
Don’t be afraid to cold email! The worst thing that can happen is someone not answering you, and most of the time it leads to great opportunities.
