Greetings,
The ABA Business Law Section has some exciting opportunities coming up for law students in conjunction with our Section Spring Meeting taking place in Orlando, Florida April 4-6, 2024 that we’re delighted to share with University of Richmond School of Law. Please share this important information with your student networks.
First, the registration for the Section Spring Meeting is complimentary for law students. If you’re not able to attend in person, you can virtually join us for all committee meetings and participate via zoom, including the Law Student Committee Meeting and Young Lawyer Committee Meeting remotely.
For students who are able to attend in person, signing up for the Law Student Scholars Program is a must. The Law Student Scholars Program offers a tailored conference experience to law students by rewarding them with an official ABA certificate for completing tasks such as attending committee meetings, CLE programs, receptions, and networking events. To register for the Scholars Program, fill out this form.
Prior to the meeting, the Law Student Committee will be hosting 2 virtual orientation meetings to prepare students to get the most out of the conference. The first orientation will take place Friday March 15 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM ET with an overview, and the second will take place Wednesday March 27 from 4:00 – 5:00 PM ET with a focus on how to effectively network. To receive updates and registration information for these orientations, fill out this form.
Thursday, April 4 is packed with law student focused programming. The Law Student Institute takes place from 3:00 – 5:00 PM ET, first with the A Day in the Life of a Business Lawyer panel where young, accomplished Business Law professionals discuss their pathways to practice and what practicing business law day-to-day is like. Q&A will follow the presentation, and then Law Student Speed Networking will start immediately after in the same room. Students will get the opportunity to speed network with some of the Section’s (and the field’s) top business law professionals. The next morning on Friday, April 5, the Law Student Committee will be meeting from 9:00 – 10:00 AM ET to provide information on the Section’s law student focused initiatives and give students the opportunity to discuss feedback and their ideas for how the Section can better serve them.
Finally, we would like to encourage law students to enter our 2024 Mendes Hershman Student Writing Contest, which is accepting submissions through May 15, 2024. First place receives a $1,000 prize and the opportunity for their paper to be included in The Business Lawyer, a quarterly publication that is the premier business law journal in the country.
We hope to see you in Orlando! Please reach out to chad.johannes@americanbar.org with any questions.
Thanks,
Chad Johannes
