As we continue through the fall semester, don’t forget to make time to work on your summer 2017 or post-graduate employment search.
1LS:
- Incorporate advisor feedback to finalize your resume and upload it to Symplicity.
- Begin researching law firms as well as public interest, government, business, and other employers. Create a target employer list.
- In Symplicity, review summer employment evaluations completed by students who previously interned at target employers.
- Draft cover letters for various types of employers and employment settings and work with your advisor to refine them.
- Become a student member of bar associations and legal interest groups in your geographic areas of interest.
- Attend Maximizing Symplicity training to learn the features of the system (Nov. 14, 15, and 17).
- Attend Cover Letter Workshop to learn to draft compelling cover letters for law-related positions (Nov. 16).
- Attend Interview Skills Workshop: The Basics to learn tips, techniques and best practices for making a positive self-presentation during screening and call-back interviews (Nov. 18).
- Conduct a videotaped mock interview in the CDO if you plan to interview over winter break.
- Line up references from law school faculty and previous employers.
2LS:

- Attend Pushing Forward: Tips for 2Ls for Landing a Summer Job (Nov. 11).
- Are you planning to apply for a second summer fellowship for summer 2017? Attend the Summer Fellowship Second Request Information Session (Nov. 14)
- Continue contacting smaller law firms, banks and corporations, and legal publishers, associations, and public interest organizations.
- Update your employment search network tracking document.
3LS:
