Now that the fall semester is in full swing, continue working on your 2017 summer or post-graduate employment search.

1Ls:

  • Receive welcome message from your career advisor.
  • Begin to review 1L employment listings for which you may begin applying on December 1 via Symplicity.
  • Attend the Judicial Clerkship Series: Judges’ Perspectives to learn what makes a clerkship applicant successful (October 14 at 2:30 p.m. Moot Courtroom – please wear business attire).
  • Attend CDO 1L Employment Search Skills Workshops: How to Find Your Summer Job to learn about resources for pursuing summer employment, guidelines for resume and cover letters, and other tips for success (October 17, 18, 19 and 20).
  • Review samples and use templates on the CDO website to prepare resume and sample cover letter for review by career advisor.
  • Become familiar with the various career-related resources available online (e.g., Martindale HubbellNALP DirectoryPSJDGovernment Honors Internships Handbook). Research and identify legal employers that hire 1Ls in your preferred geographic and practice areas.
  • Attend one-on-one appointment with your career advisor (starting October 17). Work with your advisor to develop a search strategy for summer and post-graduate employment.
  • Attend How I Spent My Summer: Student Tips to 1Ls on Finding a Summer Job to learn successful employment search tips from 2Ls and 3Ls (October 21 at 12:00 p.m. Room 102).
  • Attend Meeting and Greeting Alumni: A Fall Gathering Pre-Reception Crash Course (October 28 at 12:00 p.m. Room 102) and Fall Gathering alumni reception (October 28 at 6:00 p.m.).

2Ls:

  • Continue contacting small and mid-size law firms. Continue building your network by adding to your list of contacts and arranging informational interviews with them. Update your employment search network tracking document. Create weekly “to do” lists to help you stay on course.
  • Attend the Judicial Clerkship Series: Judges’ Perspectives to learn what makes a clerkship applicant successful (October 14 at 2:30 p.m. Moot Courtroom – please wear business attire).
  • Attend Get to Know… Hon. Stephen Ostrach, Massachusetts District Court (October 24 at 12:00 p.m. Room L31).
  • Attend Meeting and Greeting Alumni: A Fall Gathering Pre-Reception Crash Course (October 28 at 12:00 p.m. Room 102) and Fall Gathering alumni reception (October 28 at 6:00 p.m.).
  • Attend the Equal Justice Works Conference and Career Fair (October 28-29) to participate in scheduled interviews or table talk.

3Ls

  • Research application process for JAG positions with the military.
