 Lifestyle:

West Virginia is a very livable state, with a cost of living almost 6% lower than the national average. Housing costs are almost 40% below the national average, making West Virginia a very affordable place to live comfortably. The state offers low property taxes and low job turn-over, as well as very low crime rates.

Things to Do:

West Virginia is known for being “wild and wonderful.” Many of the activities in West Virginia focus on the state’s many natural resources, including mountains, rivers, lakes and waterfalls. Skiing and hiking are popular, and the ski resort Snowshoe boasts over 250 acres of terrain. Harpers Ferry, a historical site on the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, is also known for its rafting, fishing, tubing and canoeing. The capital of Charleston features music, restaurants and nightlife.

Legal Market:

West Virginia firms frequently recruit Richmond Law students for employment. During our Spring Interview Program this year, Bowles Rice and Steptoe & Johnson are recruiting. Additional firms also may recruit during Fall OCI. In addition to the firms recruiting at Richmond Law, there are other mid-size to large law firms with offices in the state, such as ReedSmith; Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliff; Jackson Kelly; Spilman Thomas & Battle; and Dinsmore & Shohl, among others.
