This course was designed to improve critical thinking and improve basic college skills. To achieve these goals, we analyzed Biblical texts from multiple perspectives. We challenged widely-accepted Biblical stories, seeing how the interpretation differed based on factors such as which religious group was telling the story, the time period the analysis was made, and the culture at the time the analysis was made. Through these exercises, we learned to be skeptical of everything we hear. We learned how to effectively prove our points through writing those beloved essays and then going back to edit them. We also learned how to effectually use library resources through the creation of research papers. Lastly, we learned to be better listeners and speakers through our small discussion groups because we had to consider others’ perspectives while also sharing ours’.
