9/15 Christian Interpretation

Today we discussed the derivation and importance of allegorical interpretation. Allegorical interpretation is similar to the Rabbinic interpretation in that they both create meaning from the “literal” text. Particularly allegorical interpretation is finding deeper representative meaning from a literal text through symbols. Since these deeper meanings can vary, some of the interpretations of scripture were in accordance with their beliefs. Although Christians and Jews both interpret text the meanings can be radically different.
