Black Woman in Reality TV

In this weeks reading Levine brings up the point that black woman are mainly shown as supporting roles rather than main roles. This can be related to the fan culture that accompanies these shows. The fandom wholesale comes from a dominant culture of white heterosexual people. Levine states, “One of the main ways that Black female fandom makes Black femininity visible is by consciously moving mediated women of color, who accompany supporting roles, to the center, transforming them into leads in fan-produced discourse.” I included this quote into my post for this week as well as clips for my final project of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. I have noticed that black female roles are usually reality TV based and are used for mockery. Shows such as Real Housewives, Bad Girls Club and Flavor of Love put black woman on center stage but these shows are all reality and tend to mock these woman for the fans that watch the show.
