I chose the quote from “Globalization’ in Keywords, “Given the ability we now have to connect with people via cell phones, at an interpersonal level or with tens of thousands, it should come s no surprise that for millions of refugees making perilous journeys across land and water, access to cell phone networks has become a matter of life and death” (Aswin Punathambekar). This quote stuck out to me because it acknowledges the difference in migration processes and experience due to technology today. I used an interview where they discuss the fact that this man’s cell phone number was this group of people’s only “safety net.” I used a clip of a boat going through some rocky waters to describe the sense of fear these refugees have to face—literally, in perilous journeys, but also figuratively, as in not having that safety net.
