Kardashian Video

“On reality television, virtually everyone is expected to be an entrepreneur of the self, incited to envision his or her humanity as the building blocks of a marketable personal enterprise” (Ouellete, 108).

The above quote shows the unrealistic expectations that are thrown on reality television stars. The quote uses the term “expected” which is absolutely accurate, but it does not always happen that way. There have been countless numbers of reality television stars who have failed in promoting their own individual brand, such as, Kevin Jonas. However, for my clip, I chose the introduction video to the popular reality television show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” The Kardashians are the ideal example of turning a reality television show into a global and profitable brand. The show premiered on October 14, 2007. The reality series centers around the members of the Kardashian-Jenner blended family, focusing on the sisters Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall, and Kylie. As a result of the success of the show, all five women have become global superstars, worth millions of dollars (net worth). Specifically, Kim, who has gone on to marry rapper Kanye West, might be the most known female figure in the United States. People often accuse the family of lacking intelligence, when in reality these women have assembled a multimillion-dollar enterprise that has all of the world talking. Over the years, the sisters have branched out and created additional reality television shows, and have used their image to create an unstoppable and powerful brand. In the video, I inserted two images with quotes on them that discuss entrepreneurship surrounding the Kardashian brand.
