This prezi outlines the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s application process using Cove Point as an example. Energy utility companies such as Dominion are required by law to complete and pass the application process through FERC in order to proceed with their projects. FERC is an agency that regulates the transmission of natural gas, oil, and electricity, as well as regulating natural gas and hydropower projects. Two of FERC’s guiding principles are their “determination to be open and fair to all participants” and to “conduct regular outreach to ensure that interested parties have an appropriate opportunity to contribute to the performance of the Commission’s responsibilities” ; by using Cove Point as a case study, we are able to assess whether FERC complies with its stated methods.(x) As evidenced by Dominion’s application, the problems lie within the systems themselves–that is to say, Dominion’s application complies with FERC’s regulations completely. It can be concluded, therefore, that FERC’s regulations are faulty. For more about this, check out our additional resources page.
