Final Essay Topic: Global Hip-Hop/Rap and it’s evolution

We talked about in class how Hip-hop/rap began with African Americans speaking of their struggles and other aspects of their resistance and rebellion, and the homogeneity of it all. But this seems to be diluting, as the genre is opening up to other demographics, and even globally. I can think of global rap/hip-hop artists that stay true to the themes of resistance, but what about examples like kpop, that seem to remove rap from its beginnings? I will focus on elements of sexuality and even gender in terms of the homogeneity within american hip-hop, and see how it has altered in these other realms.
