Impact of The Synthesizer

Although synthesizers had a profound impact on music, it was not seen immediately. As discussed, it took awhile for the technology to develop into an instrument that could be easily operable. However, like many new technologies and advancements in music, the impact that the synthesizers had on music were far more profound than imaginable at the time of creation. The synthesizers brought upon a conceptual change in modern music where the focus was on the creation of sound itself (Green 2013). Before the synthesizer, music was focused more on individual instruments and the sound that they could produce. The abilities of the synthesizer to produce virtually any sound caused a shift in the composer’s attention from more traditional musical concepts such as melody, harmony and rhythm to a more attentive detail to sound (Green 2013). Jackson was among many artists that capitalized on the ability to create new sounds with this form of rising technology.
