Welcome to More About Us, a StoryCorps DIY Disability Visibility Oral History Project!

Inspired by the groundbreaking New York Times anthology, About Us, and Alice Wong’s Disability Visibility Project, the More About Us Disability Visibility Oral History Project is a chance for members of the University of Richmond community with experience of disability to share their stories, in the belief that greater visibility is the first step towards greater equity and inclusion.

The project welcomes participation from all members of the University of Richmond community with experience of disability, irrespective whether the disability is visible or invisible, long-term or short-term, conventionally identified or perceived as disability or not.

Participants have a choice of recording their interviews in person at the Technology Learning Center at Boatwright Library with a conversation partner they select or a member of the More About Us team, or recording on their own with a chosen conversation using the StoryCorps App for mobile devices (for conversation partners in the same location) or StoryCorps Connect (for conversation partners in different locations).

Participants decide how much or little to disclose and retain control over the privacy settings for their interview on the StoryCorps platform, with a choice whether or not to make their interview public. Student participants who would like to make their interview public are encouraged to consider whether or not they wish to use their full names in recognition of the fact that the world is not yet as inclusive as it should be.

Visit the More About Us community page on StoryCorps to listen to existing interviews.

For questions concerning the project, email project organizer, Dr. Karin Boxer, or a member of the More About Us team at moreaboutus@richmond.edu.

The last date to participate in the current version of the project is Monday, May 13, 2024.
