What is the #MeToo Movement, and What is its Purpose?

The #MeToo Movement captivates America’s attention as the nation grapples with recent revelations about its vicious history of sexual assault and workplace abuse. The #MeToo Movement exploded on social media after Ashley Judd, a renowned Hollywood actress, accused filmmaker Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault. Judd’s action inspired 51 actresses to speak out against Weinstein to publicly confess he assaulted them while they worked on his film sets. Working women across the country are uniting in a new wave of feminism and female solidarity, determined to end the immunity men receive from being held accountable for their wrongdoings, stemming from America’s patriarchal society. The purpose of this website is to illustrate the significance and importance of the #MeToo Movement and argue the movement should be further embraced in the United States in order to improve the rights of working women.
