Is promoting this image with immense money and publicity really what is best for the people of Great Britain? While some would say that the royal family is old fashioned and dated, they are also consistent and steadfast. Their dedication to tradition and preservation resonates positively with the British people, as the rest of the world is moving so quickly towards the unknown future, many find it comforting to look towards a family and an institution that can be relied on to always stay the course and follow protocol (“Should Britain Abolish the Monarchy?”). This consistency will prove to be especially important, given the current political climate in Great Britain. The country is in the midst of working through the aftermath of Brexit, the referendum that decided that Great Britain would leave the European Union (“Brexit: All You Need to Know about the UK Leaving the EU). Not only are there logistical and bureaucratic dilemmas, but the political polarization that is plaguing the country is bringing about a division that cannot be treated by a political entity. The monarchy, however, has continuously existed above political squabbles, and is obligated to not voice an opinion on such divisive matters. The steadfast symbolism of the monarchy might seem problematic at first glance, but its dedication to tradition could prove to be vital to leading Britain through Brexit (Maltby).
