Bargained Sovereignty

17 Jul

What does it mean to be a “sovereign state”? Does sovereignty validate a state’s status in a global network? How does sovereignty play into globalization? As per this presentation I gave in my Globalization of the Non-Western world class, “State Power and Networked Governance In A Globalizing World“, we see Joel Campbell’s, Leena Thacker Kumar’s, and Steve Slagle’s analysis of these previous questions. Furthermore, they critique whether or not confirmed sovereignty actually merits the validity of a nation state and how corporations also play a key role in how we function within a society. While their ideas allow for some insight on how we can view the global network, there is still a lot of room for improvement in our understanding for how we should function within our international framework. All of these questions and ideas posed allow for discussion and further discourse to occur. What discourse compels you?
