AMERICA says “We can do what we want”
This past week, a U.S destroyer sailed right throughs the international waters that China has so called “claimed” as their own. This seemed to not be a big deal until a newspaper that is closely connected with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is encouraging the government to tell Washington that they are “Not frightened a war with the U.S. in the region”. The spokesperson for China demands that the U.S stop the ships from perturbing their territories. The U.S. says that the ships navigation course are routine and very legal because no one nation can claim international waters as their own. The U.S says that it is “not a provocative act and should not be taken as one”. The U.S. also says that they will not back down and fly and sail wherever international law permits them. However, China says that they are adding more military protection in these areas to protect and a warn away ships and planes from the United states. The tensions are continuing to build and especially after the U.S. flew over again and a Chinese official radioed ing “You Go!”. I see this being a security dilemma problem for China. The U.S government sailing destroyers through waters near china territory brings attention to China because they are afraid of an attack. In naval terminology, a destroyer is a fast maneuverable long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet, convoy or battle group and defend them against smaller powerful short-range attackers. This is a vessel that can do some damage to chinas bordering waters and in no question affects their security. The U.S although says it is routine and says they mean no harm, China does not know their intentions and therefore implements the addition of more military protection around the waters where the U.S. ships are sailing. The tensions are high and due to the security dilemma there could be an act of militarization ahead between these two nations.
