Iranian Council Approves Nuclear Deal

On Wednesday, Iran approved a landmark nuclear deal with the worlds powers. The Guardian Council, a twelve member council that is one of the top leadership bodies in Iran, did not unanimously vote on the landmark deal, however the deal was passed non the less. This plan had attempts to be derailed by the hard-liners. The purpose of the deal is to require the Iranian government to work towards the nuclear disarmament of Israel and also bans Iran from deploying and producing nuclear weapons.

The passing of this deal has increased tensions within the hard-liner community and the council. The hard-liners have been attempting to derail this deal, so much so that “hard-line lawmakers shouted, scuffled and wept during a final parliamentary hearing on the bill”. Despite attempts by the hard-liners to derail the deal, the passing of this deal has marked the final step in the entire landmark process.

Aside from intern conflicts created this deal has also created a resistance from Republicans.

The council’s decision marks the last approval needed before starting the deal, which came after nearly two years of negotiations between Iran and the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany. The U.N. Security Council previously approved the deal on July 20 and the U.S. Congress blocked efforts by Republicans to derail the accord in September.

This plan has many differing viewpoints on whether or not it is a success for Iran. However, even though the passing of the deal is a huge success in the administration of moderate President Hassan Rouhani, there is also conflict based on Iran’s Revolutionary Guard publicizing images of an underground missile base, along with firing off a new long-rage rocket, which illustrates the continuation of the hard-liner force.
