Ch. 5

The findings included in this chapter did not surprise me as much as in other chapters, as pessimism does not seem like a beneficial personality trait in any aspect. While I believe that sometimes it is helpful to expect the worst case scenario in certain situations to avoid potential disappointment, I feel that pessimism does not allow an individual to be fully happy. In addition, pessimistic people, as mentioned in the chapter, have more trouble socially, which could affect their social ties, which contributes to longevity. I have often heard people talking poorly of pessimists, and the way their personality negatively affects their friends, so I was not surprised by this information.
