Identity and Erasure: The Story of African Slave Burial Site

This story map serves to explore the telling of history and the stories of those who came before us. How do we tell our story after we’re gone? Who is allowed to tell their stories? More specifically, I want to look at how enslaved Africans able to tell their stories after escaping bondage in death. Virginia has a lot of history with Slavery that has not been given proper notice. Power is unequally distributed in our society. Some groups are more represented than others. For instance, compared to the glorified confederate history, we see that the history and record of many slaves were, neglected or destroyed and hence erased and forgotten. Thus, the notion of erasure is tied to certain identities and played out in history and politics.
