Extra reading for Sept 9 – women in Wikipedia
The final project (which will be written over the semester and presented in oral presentations) will be a Wikipedia-style historical biography for a woman scientist/engineer (broadly defined; living or dead). For Sept 9, please review the following, to learn about and understand the women in Wikipedia project:
- WikiProject Women Scientists page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Women_scientists)
- Systemic Bias page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Systemic_bias)
- How to write a Wikipedia Biography: http://www.cs.duke.edu/csed/wikipedia/
- More how-to and interesting information: http://www.cs.duke.edu/~rodger/talks/talkMicrosoftJune2015/TalkRodgerMicrosoftJune2015.pptx (Professor Rodger’s talk is the middle one—you have to let the rest of the program “run” to see her part; the pdf without her verbal talking is here: http://www.cs.duke.edu/~rodger/talks.html)
