The founder and leader of the Icarian community, the French native was exiled to England where he found inspiration in Thomas More’s Utopia. Publishing his own utopian novel, Voyage en Icarie, Cabet inspired others to join him in his quest to pursue the perfectibility of man.
Cabet’s writings focus on the idea that man can become perfect through the proper adaptation of education, equality, and lack of societal constructs. Through the progression of the Icarian communities, he strove to lead his followers in this pursuit.
