Candidates will select ONE of the following books on mathematics.
Lockhart, P. (2009). A mathematician’s lament: How school cheats us out of our most fascinating and imaginative art form. New York, NY: Bellevue Literary Press.
After reading the selected text, candidates will write a response paper that provides a brief overview of the text and describes in depth three new ideas learned about math instruction. Then they will describe the ways in which these ideas might influence classroom practice or find their way into work with students.
