Teaching Wilson & WWI: Connecting the United States to India and the World

On Wilson and Self-Determination. This seven-page essay summarizes and reviews the definitive scholarly book on the subject. It covers Wilson’s attitudes toward non-white peoples and the uses of the Wilsonian language of self-determination by anti-colonial movements in India, Egypt, China, and Korea.

Amritsar Massacre: Also known as the Jallianwall Bagh Massacre, this is a critical moment in the Indian independence movement.  The US newspaper article shows the ways in which Americans were aware of efforts for democracy and self-determination beyond Europe.  This digital collection of Young India pamphlets offers a window onto efforts within the United States to promote the end of British rule in India.

South Asian Immigration to United States: The South Asian American digital archive offers additional resources for bringing the history of South Asian Americans into the larger history of the United States.
