{"id":4053,"date":"2020-04-27T18:56:13","date_gmt":"2020-04-27T22:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/walkingrichmond\/?p=4053"},"modified":"2020-05-09T14:20:02","modified_gmt":"2020-05-09T18:20:02","slug":"journal-walking-for-the-first-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/walkingrichmond\/2020\/04\/27\/journal-walking-for-the-first-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Walking For the First Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Nina Joss<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>March 25<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To be living in a time<br \/>\nwhere emails are signed off with \u201cstay safe &amp; healthy,\u201d<br \/>\nwhere the first response to \u201chow are you?\u201d<br \/>\nis: \u201chome, safe with my family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Where going outside is a privilege that my lord we took for granted.<\/p>\n<p>I haven\u2019t hugged my friends in weeks.<br \/>\nWell I did, once, Grace, last week<br \/>\nand felt guilty the whole drive home.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a constant distance. In the words of a dear friend\u2014\u201cWe are not made for a virtual reality. We are made for a physical one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But now the majority of my day is spent looking at a screen.<br \/>\nBut we\u2019ve been talking. And reading. And playing music. And biking. And baking.<br \/>\nWe are finding the joy in things we didn\u2019t before.<br \/>\nWe are relying on each other, morally obligated to care for the rest. Doing the most we can to save them.<br \/>\nYet so far. And realizing that, more than anything, we need each other.<\/p>\n<p>I went for a run yesterday, and although there was a physical avoidance between myself and the other humans I saw, I felt a spiritual connection, stronger than normal.<br \/>\nWe waved hello.
