Response Paper 1

“How do I imagine a utopian community to live?”

A world in which everyone gets along and issues fail to arise is a place that is hard to imagine seeing all the problems our society faces today, but yet this is how I envision a social utopia. In the ideal world, everyone would get along. There would be no judging or stereotyping based on the color of someone’s skin, someone’s gender, or someone’s sexual orientation. People would love one another, help one another, and support one another as opposed to constantly trying to tear down their opponent. Whether it be in business, school, or social life today, everything is a competition and people are always trying to better themselves and improve their own life, often times at the expense of someone else’s. Violence is too often used to solve issues or to try to be heard and this is something that needs to stop. In my social utopia, everyone will have a voice and will be able to speak his or her mind without fear of being judged, attacked, or shunned from society. My social utopia is a place where all men and women are actually created equal and everyone lives in peace and harmony with one another.

Another essential aspect of my social utopia is that opportunities will be more fairly distributed amongst all people. All children will be given the opportunity to receive an exceptional education that will give them the resources needed to succeed in life. Instead of in today’s society where more money is spent on prisons than on schools, in my social utopia, education will be a priority. Education not only provides children with knowledge, but it also instills within them a feeling of self pride and self worth- a feeling that they are capable and can do whatever they set their mind. This characteristic is imperative in order to build a society of moral, hardworking individuals. Apart from educational opportunities, job opportunities will also be distributed amongst all individuals. Everyone will have the same chance to get a job and to earn a living for themselves and their families. People will work together with their colleagues to produce the best product possible and be most efficient without fear that they will not earn as much money as the person they are helping, for poverty will be a thing of the past.

My social utopia is centered around the idea of a true community, a group of individuals all coming together to help and care for one another. There will be no tension between groups of people, no hatred, and no judging. It will be a society filled with hardworking, moral, and all around good-hearted people. Issues of race, gender, and sexuality will no longer be around, and people will not have to worry about money and providing for their families because everyone will have the opportunity to get a job. Kids will stay out of trouble and out of prison by staying in school and receiving a great education. Issues of today and issues of the past will no longer be issues in my social utopia.
