{"id":118,"date":"2023-10-24T18:40:26","date_gmt":"2023-10-24T18:40:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/urmusichistory\/?page_id=118"},"modified":"2023-12-14T21:21:16","modified_gmt":"2023-12-14T21:21:16","slug":"alma-mater-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/urmusichistory\/alma-mater-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Westhampton College"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 1918 a contest was held for an alma mater song for Westhampton College.\u00a0 According to <a href=\"https:\/\/richmond.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/permalink\/01URICH_INST\/191gg5k\/alma995377393606241\"><em>A Gem of a College<\/em> <\/a>by Claire Millhiser Rosenbaum,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The winner of the contest, Elizabeth Walker Ellyson Wiley, WC &#8217;18, recalled later that her inspiration came from observing the beauty of the campus, especially the pine grove, and the trees at sunset.
