{"id":490,"date":"2013-05-24T07:25:27","date_gmt":"2013-05-24T11:25:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ti3d\/?p=490"},"modified":"2013-05-24T07:29:33","modified_gmt":"2013-05-24T11:29:33","slug":"3d-printing-in-the-ur-alumni-magazine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ti3d\/2013\/05\/24\/3d-printing-in-the-ur-alumni-magazine\/","title":{"rendered":"3D Printing in the UR Alumni Magazine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/magazine.richmond.edu\/spring-summer13\/feature-1\/late-night-at-boatwright.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-493\" title=\"Late Night @ Boatwright 3D Printed Cube\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/ti3d\/files\/2013\/05\/Screen-Shot-2013-05-24-at-6.51.33-AM.png\" alt=\"overhead photo of the 3D cube of letters taken while being printed\" width=\"588\" height=\"328\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/magazine.richmond.edu\/spring-summer13\/feature-1\/late-night-at-boatwright.html\"><br \/>\n<\/a>As a collaborate project between University Communications, CTLT, and Boatwright Library, we developed the largest 3D print to be printed on a UR CTLT printer for inclusion in a <a href=\"http:\/\/magazine.richmond.edu\/spring-summer13\/feature-1\/late-night-at-boatwright.html\">video<\/a> that documents the night culture in the library. \u00a0The cubic prop measured 180mm (over 7 inches) in its largest dimension and paves the way for large academic 3D printed objects. \u00a0The Solidoodle 3 printer can print an object up to 8 in. x 8 in. x 8 in., so we expect it will get more use for printing everything from large molecular models to student 3D design sculpture.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Communications developed the typography and provided a sample to the CTLT for further refinement and extrusion into a 3D shape. \u00a0The CTLT imported the design into SketchUp from an Adobe Illustrator intermediary file format.
