He definitely spent a lot of time on it because it’s very profound and contemplative. I could tell he was very proud of the work he had accomplished over his tenure at Bon Air. It was so touching to see him want to continue meeting every week. In the recent weeks, I’ve gotten to know Bryan better too because he and Sage seem to be good friends. Last trip, Maddy, Ally, Sage, Bryan, and I all just talked naturally. It didn’t feel like it was part of a class or even in a prison. I actually didn’t want to leave after my hour was up. It felt genuine. Over the past five weeks, Sage never really shared as much as the rest of the group about his past. Toward the end, he began to open up more, but I feel like what Sage didn’t share shows a lot about how he thinks of himself now. He doesn’t identify with the person that got him into Bon Air, his old self, but he now is a completely reborn person, which he shows with his writing. That is why he only shares stories from his life in Bon Air and his hopes for his future and hardly anything from his past despite my encouragements. I am happy that Sage is at peace with the person he is today.
