Worried (Bon Air 4)

When our partners first walked into the room I could tell something was up. Dazavier sort of had his head in his hands, and was whispering a story to Galvino. He was shaking his head a lot and looked generally upset. We made eye contact and shared a look that told me he’d tell me what was going on as soon as we got into our smaller groups.

We ignored the prompt and Dazavier told me what was going on. Earlier that day, he had gotten a call and one of his best friends was shot in the chest and was currently in critical condition. Being in the jail, Dazavier didn’t get much more information than that, and is currently not able to go down to the hospital to see his friend. This conversation led to another one that was much more troubling, however. Apparently, his friend got shot because a few people (Dazavier just called them “they”) had some sort of beef with Dazavier, his family, and his friends (more towards the brother I think). Dazavier told me he doesn’t know exactly why these guys are targeting them, but in the past year or so, his sister has been shot at, his brother and cousin were shot, and as I mentioned previously, more recently his friend was shot. Dazavier gets out in April if everything goes well, and he has plans to go to college. I’m just extremely worried that he won’t be able to survive the summer. There is a serious chance that with all his good intentions, he’ll get pulled back into trouble, and might end up back in jail or worse. I tried to offer any advice I could; keep your head down, maybe try to find out why exactly these guys want to mess with you and your family, and just do everything you can to make it into a college unscathed.

On a more positive note, Sage came over to me at the beginning of the night and asked me for my address so he could send me a letter asking about general college things or possibly something about “mass communications?” I’m not too sure what that is but I gave him my address and told him to write to me any time. I’m expecting a letter soon which I’m very excited to reply to.

If you’re of the inclination, do me a solid and pray for Dazavier, or whatevere you think would help. He’s had a hard life, and I just hope things get better for him.

Thanks,

-Trevor
