Class Notes 11/2/16

• No mindfulness minute today- instead we had a free write based on the quote, “what’s in it for them?”
o (A few) Reasons given:
 Interesting to see the similarities and differences between our lives, even though generally our environments were very different
 Having a book to remember the telling of their stories in the future might be beneficial for the residents to have later in their life
 Really cool starfish story (“it made a difference to that one…”)
• Don’t give out your address to the residents….
• Maria hit someone with her car
• Don’t run from the police
• Go to court if you get a speeding ticket and there’s a 50/50 chance you get out of paying fines, etc.
• This is more for us than just a grade
o Dolson believes this is for us to also learn something about life, etc.
o Give us more tools to go on and build relationships
• Just by telling these stories it seems like we’re creating a community
• I completely missed the one thing that was said about the pdf we had to read (forgot to type, responder please help)
• Aristotle’s triangle:
o Teller- they have one way of seeing things, but have a reason to tell that story, to some person.
o Listener- brings in their own perspectives to change purpose if they were ever to tell it again.
o Purpose- lives in the mind of the Teller and the Listener. Will never be the same for anyone.
o A bit of their life becomes your life.
• Are narrators even real (can there ever TRULY be a neutral, omniscient narrator?)
• Question to ask yourself: How are the stories you’ve heard going to change the way you think about things in the future.

• Last meeting at Bon Air is this upcoming weekend!
o Keep thinking about project ideas and make sure you get down your partner’s portion.
