Thoughts on our project

The guys in Bon Air asked a good question: what is in it for them? Sure they have enjoyed talking and a relief from boredom. But the final project– why should they write or draw something for it?

Ashley and I had worked out some goals for the project overall (see the Bon Air tab for a reminder) but now it comes to you. How do you think this project can matter?

A famous writer (John Berger) said: “If I am a storyteller it’s because I listen. For me, a storyteller is a passeur (smuggler) who gets contraband across a frontier.” Do you agree? What, in your case, is the contraband? what is the frontier? How are you “smuggling?

A thought that I had based off of my classmates’ posts from tonight was that our final project could be a way that we make sure we don’t forget the boys. Writing there story in something tangible that we would keep forever means that every time we look at it we would have to remember their names and more importantly their stories. So if they are worried about being forgotten, then they are getting something that can last longer than memory can out of this, they are getting a way to tell their story and to be seen and heard and touch the lives of more people than just us.
