Bon Air #4

When we got to Bon Air this week, they were on lock down so we ended up waiting in the library for about half an hour. Thankfully, they have those new super comfy chairs, so it was pretty plush! Anyway, once the guys finally got there, we only had time to talk as a group about our weekends, favorites holidays, and our thoughts about the group project. The group as a whole seemed considerably less responsive and more distracted than previous weeks, but we ultimately still had a really nice group discussion.

While talking about our goal for the group project, one of the guys asked what they would be getting out of it. Since they were helping us with our project for school, he wanted to know how he and the rest of the residents would benefit. That was a little tough to answer at first, but we told him it’ll be a tangible way to remember our time spent together. He compared us to a leaf in the wind, here today and gone tomorrow. Basically, he said he wouldn’t be surprised if in 2 weeks we don’t remember their names. That was upsetting to hear because it shows how they’ve learned not to count on people. They’re used to people letting them down and leaving. It’s especially sad because I don’t think any of us truly want to quit visiting them. Honestly, I don’t know how long they’ll remember my name but I’ll definitely remember this experience and the impact it’s had on me for years and years.
