Fairy Tales – Jack Zipes

“We are all misfit for the world, and somehow we must fit in, fit in with other people, and thus we must invent or find the means through communication to satisfy as well as resolve conflicting desires and instincts.”

I think this is a very powerful line from the chapter because it gets to the root of how fairytales have prospered. As much as we find fairytales distant and far-fetched, we still see ourselves in the characters’ problems and desires. Our world is full of conflict and hardships, which is the starting point of all fairytales. To have our conflicts and desired represented in such a way that a happy ending is possible is comforting to us, even if we don’t realize it.

Finding the purpose of fairytales will help me with my delivery of my fairytale.
