Telling Fairytales
““Evolutionarily speaking, we talk because we were the only primates who gained social status and therewith fitness by talking. . . . Psychologically speaking, we talk because we must be heard.””
This is a Marshall Poe quote that was in the reading. The reading explains that Poe believed that there were six different phases to the history of communication, and that speech has always been the primary one up until the present day. Poe also believes that we talk to be relevant, and that we want people to want to hear what we have to say. This quote is significant because we have all talked throughout history because we gain knowledge and insight by talking. And it is the best form of communication and it is necessary in order to further our societies. However, each of us talks because we want to be heard and we want to be related to. In our heads, the reason we talk is because we want other people to listen to what we have to say. So in order for us to tell our fairytales and be heard, we have to want people to listen. The best way for us to communicate our stories to the class is to speak them and do it in the best way we can.
