Storytelling Reading

“They are not alive, but they breathe and are vigorous, and as they are passed on to us through traditions of storytelling, they almost assume a life of their own.”

I found this line important to our understanding of stories because, like what was said in the reading, stories are not original but are instead derived from stories that have already been told in the past. This line is important because stories assume a life of their own through how they change when we tell them, how they change us, and how their meanings may change based on to whom, when, or where the story is being told. This is important for the stories we are going to tell as they will not be the same as the stories we read, but will instead be our takes of them.
