I made it (Bon Air round 3)
All of today was a wild day. (Skip to paragraph 2 for Bon Air stuff, para one is me complaining about my day). I spend the entire morning and afternoon trapped in Williamsburg. My car battery has had a few issues in the past, and today my car wouldn’t start and nothing under the hood looked too bad to me, but I knew it was the battery. I had to get my car towed to a mechanics shop so they could look at it, and apparently, there’s some faulty wiring that connect to the battery. They replaced a few corroded parts and tightened the connections to the wires, so I was finally able to drive through rush-hour traffic from Williamsburg to UR (about an hour and 15-minute drive) just to be late for the bus to Bon Air. After getting into contact with Prof. Dolson, I decided to drive myself to Bon Air, in the pitch dark. The bus driver makes it look easy, but Siri does not know anything about the complex. I drove around a bit lost, but luckily, because I had to drive myself earlier in the year, I remembered my way to where we go for the program.
My second set of problems occurred after I found a place to park. I pressed the buzzer on the door out front and nothing happened. I saw people moving around inside so I waved my hands a lot and pressed the button a few more times, the whole time paranoid that I was maybe in the wrong place or too late to come in. Apparently, there was some problem with a few of the inmates inside, and there was only one very frazzled guard in the control room. She finally let me in, and after some more waiting for someone to be available to search me, I was able to get in. But when I made it to the library, Dazavier wasn’t there! He was just playing basketball, so we both ended up coming to the meeting late and I guess things worked out. Before Dazavier came, I grouped with Robynne and her partner Galvino. I got to hear Robynne’s best day story about her 18th birthday that she spent with her best friends and some quality Mac and Cheese in New York, and I heard a bit about Galvino’s beach story, but he didn’t share much. I couldn’t think of a best day story because I ended up thinking of one of my worst day stories, which I started thinking of because it occurred on my 18th birthday. Long story short, I learned how to change a tire, but also spent over 4 hours in a cookout parking lot on my 18th birthday instead of going to graduation parties (graduation parties because my birthday was the day after I graduated).
Eventually, Dazavier showed up to the meeting and we kind of just ended up staying grouped with Robynne and Galvino. We were supposed to share a story about a time we were surprised, but somehow (I just can’t remember how) we ended up talking about drugs and parties. OH wait ok so Dazavier wanted to know about college parties. I told him about the recent lodge we had and that’s how drugs and things came up. He told us that he had taken pills and things before, and that led to me sharing a story about my brother, who has gotten all the party genes. My brother has also done a few things involving drugs and alcohol, and has been arrested in the past. I feel like this would have become a longer conversation for sure, but sadly we ended up running out of time and were not able to finish talking about the similarities that existed between our two lives. Overall, a great time even though the day started out rough, and now I’m definitely going to be in the library for the rest of today, and the majority of tomorrow morning.
