Fairy Tale

“Stories may not actually breathe, but they can animate”   — Arthur Frank, Letting Stories Breathe

This is one of my favorite sentences, because, from my perspective, the meaning of stories is that they have the power to inspire people in their real lives. People could gain support to overcome their setbacks, find solutions to solve their difficulties and even avoid some mistakes in their real lives from stories.  Moreover, my personal experiences really connect to this sentence.  Every time when I want to give up, a Chinese story of a monk who spent several years to go West to acquire Buddhist scriptures would encourage me to hold out to the last. And the origin story that I am going to tell in class forms my first understanding of love. All those stories are not longer just some fictitious characters’ experiences but advise that help the listeners’ own real lives.
