Evolution of Storytelling and Fairy Tales Response

“They explore the human condition rather than instruct how one must behave. They explain more than they sermonize. As exempla, fables warn and advise as opposed to prescribing behavior and manners. ”

I found this excerpt to be particularly interesting in regards to my own story that I will be sharing. It is describing the purpose of fables, and I had always thought of my story as a fairy tale. But, I was having trouble understanding the purpose of my story, because there wasn’t a happy ending or a “moral”. After reading this assignment and stumbling upon this quote, I realized that I don’t have to find a moral or a reason in it. It exists simply because it is a tale of life, magic, and mystery. This also made me understand how to connect it to today, recent Irish history.
