2nd Bon Air Trip
Similar to my last trip, I found that Galvino doesn’t talk much or share much about his life. Either he doesn’t really want to be in the program or he is just very shy and hesitant to open up to me. I worked with Vi during this trip and she believes the latter. He has been through a lot of traumatic experiences and it makes sense that he is not trust anyone so easily, especially a random 18 year old girl from UR that he has never met before. While mine and Vi’s stories were detailed and humorous, Galvino’s stories were very short and did not seem to mean anything to him. In my opinion, he seemed pretty uninterested.
However, talking in the big group was more interesting and active than speaking one on one with Galvino. We talked about our favorite pizza toppings and two of the inmates along with Trevor had the same favorite topping and they fist bumped. Then we discussed a story about when we were helped or when we helped someone else. A lot of us told stories about when we got hurt and some of them were pretty funny and made the boys laugh. There was a really good dynamic between the students and the boys this time around and I got a really positive experience out of that.
Hopefully next week Galvino will ease up to talking to me some more and tell me more about his life.
