2nd Bon Air Trip
After our first visit to Bon Air, I was excited to go back and continue getting the know the guys. It felt like our group picked up right where we left off, which was really nice. One topic that got brought up was just how young some of the boys at the facility are. One guy in our group first came when he was only 13. Later, a group passed by the open library door and I saw a couple REALLY young looking boys, which was heartbreaking because they just looked so little!
Talking about our first days of school was interesting because my partner had to sit in a library for 3 days waiting to get his schedule. That completely blew my mind! I can’t imagine a school being so negligent. What’s funny is that his biggest frustration was getting all dressed up in his new school clothes for nothing. He was so excited to show off his new Jordans, but didn’t get to see many of his classmates. He said it was a really big school though and other people had to wait in the library with him for the same reason. It was hard for me to relate to that because my graduating class had 16 students total. I think that kind of blew his mind! His situation made me think about how he got lost in the system and almost forgotten about by the school. I think it would be easy to lose motivation and stop caring about school if you felt that disconnected.
