Ashley Williams came in to talk about the Pathways side of the Bon Air visits

- All residents have been picked and oriented
- Our Role:
- Purpose:
- Allow residents to get to know us as students
- Forming peer to peer mentoring relationship
- Goal:
- Non judgemental
- Form positive relationship for them to know you and you to know them
- Don’t look at them as a criminal (be aware of their reason for being there but don’t label)
- Being willing to learn, listen, share, engage, and be non-judgemental
- Be facilitator to be able to get work/project done and stay on task
- Purpose:
- Not allowed to ask why they are in there
- Average age:15-17 (One 14 year old)
- Pety/Grand Larceny
- Shootings
- Assault/Battery
- Theft
- Degree of trauma some/most of experienced
- Violence
- Sexual abuse/harassment
- Death
- High levels and frequency
- Trauma experienced before 12 often sticks with you throughout your life
- Developmental limitations
- Social skills
- Brain development
- Listening/focus
- Developmental limitations
- This work with them will benefit us and them
- How to trust
- How to open up
- How to start/keep conversations
- Question asked to us: Why are you here?
- Real responses
- For the class but you’re there to learn more about them and do a project on stories for them

- Students have a great ability to know when people are not being honest/real
- Always be honest/real with them so they can trust you
