Juvenile in Justice Reaction

It has honestly always been my biggest fear to somehow end up in jail, and even worse, solitary confinement. This was really hard to look through but it reiterated some thoughts I already had about our justice system/the world itself.

Nothing is black and white–I’ve always believed really strongly in this. In every context possible, I think it is extremely important to understand that no matter how something seems, there is never one right or one wrong answer. Flipping through these pages and reading the words of people who understand this more than anyone, that was the first thought that came to mind.

I am also taking intro to sociology this semester, and so this also brought up a lot about what we have been learning in that course. We are actually reading a book right now that documents the lives of boys living in housing projects and their attitudes towards life and success. It’s one of the most depressing things I have ever read, along with this book. You realize that sometimes, no matter how hard you work or how much good character you actually possess, your environment will prevail. We like to think that good people do good things and will be rewarded; in reality, it’s all a big complicated mess and certain people end up successful and certain people don’t. I liked it when I used to believe in a right and a wrong… it made life so much easier.
